Exercise Physiology FAQs

What is a Exercise Physiologist?

Exercise Physiologists are degree-qualified clinicians who possess a comprehensive understanding of the structure, function and movement of the human body and the impact that exercise has on the same. They must also be accredited as an Exercise Physiologists which is regulated by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).

How can a Exercise Physiologist help me?

An Exercise Physiologist can work with you to establish meaningful exercise and activity related goals that will have a positive impact on your mobility and quality of life. In circumstances where a person wants to return to previously enjoyed activities like cycling, walking, running, swimming or other outdoor pursuits, an Exercise Physiologist will use a variety of evidence-based techniques to help increase range of motion, cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength and coordination.

What should I expect in from an Initial Exercise Physiology session?

At your initial session your Exercise Physiologist will ask you some questions to get an understanding of your life journey and associated relevant medical and health conditions. They will discuss with you what your ultimate goals are and work with you to develop a meaningful and purposeful plan. The Exercise Physiologist will observe you doing some basic movements like standing or sitting and will generally assess your current levels of fitness and mobility.

How long does an Exercise Physiology session take?

Again, this depends on why you have engaged an Exercise Physiologist. Generally, an initial assessment could take up to one hour, whereas for subsequent appointments a half hour is usually enough.

How can I find out more?
